Electrical Stimulation of delayed union and nonunion.

Abstract

|
For the treatment of delayed union or nonunion, various bone graft technique and internal fixation methods were customarily used. But the healing time is usually long with these methods of treatment.
Since Yasuda introduced the electrical current as a bone stimulating factor, many clinical studies of bone healing using various kinds of currents for nonunion, delayed union, congenital pseudarthrosis and fresh fractures were performed.
Authors applied a our own made direct current electrical stimulator on a case of delayed union of the tibia without bone graft and internal fixation. In other case with nonunion of the femer. we applied the same design with compression plate and bone graft. The fracturess were unitedsatisfactory about 12 weeks after the application.
